Posthumous Portrait
Intro
Sometimes there is a desire to preserve the presence of someone who is no longer with us.
A posthumous portrait can be a meaningful and comforting way to keep that presence alive.
As a classically trained portrait painter, I create posthumous portraits based on photographs and — if desired — personal conversations with family members.
The aim is not only to achieve a likeness, but to capture the character, atmosphere and essence of the person.
Working Method
For a posthumous portrait, I usually work with several photographs. Ideally these include:
- a clear image of the face
- a natural expression
- references for hairstyle or clothing
Together we determine the most suitable starting point.
If needed, I can combine elements from different photographs into a balanced and convincing composition.
During the process, I will keep you informed by email.
Technique
The portrait is executed using classical oil painting techniques on panel or canvas.
Through the layered build-up of paint, a sense of depth and durability is achieved — allowing the work to last for generations.
Posthumous portraits can be created in a range of sizes.
Prices start from €1500 for a small format.
Larger works or specific wishes can be discussed.
Personal approach
Because a posthumous portrait often carries emotional significance, I take the time to approach each commission with care and attention.
If you would like to commission a portrait, or explore the possibilities, feel free to get in touch.
I will be happy to think along with you.
