Cat portrait “Tommie” by artist Arjan van Gent. This painting became the best-selling postcard during my solo exhibition Children with Fur at the KattenKabinet in Amsterdam.

Introduction:

Would you like to have a portrait of your cat painted? In my studio in The Hague I create commissioned portraits of people and animals, based on photographs or live observation, using classical techniques such as oil painting, watercolor or drawing. 

A painted portrait of your cat is a unique and lasting way to capture the character of your beloved companion. With more than 25 years of experience in classical painting techniques, I create portraits that combine technical precision with expression and atmosphere.

My work can be found in private, corporate and museum collections in the Netherlands and abroad.

My specialty is small round cat portraits of approximately 20 cm in diameter. The medallion-shaped format creates an intimate and timeless portrait in which the cat’s gaze takes centre stage.

How does commissioning a cat portrait work?

1. Photographs of your cat

You send me one or more clear photographs of your cat. If desired, I can advise you on which images are most suitable for a strong portrait.

2. Size and technique

Together we determine the size and technique. My specialty is a round cat portrait of approximately 20 cm in diameter, executed as a classical medallion.

3. The painting process

Using the photographs as a reference, I create a personal portrait in which the character of your cat takes centre stage. During the process, I keep you informed of the progress by email.

4. Framing

If desired, I can advise you on a suitable frame. I work together with the traditional frame maker Rob Schippers.

5. Delivery

Once completed, the portrait can be collected from my studio or shipped carefully.

Prices start at €650, excluding frame.
